Refund and Returns
We will provide a full refund for the adoption fee of the rat in the unlikely event that a rat bites anyone and draws blood, provided that the adopter sends us a picture if the wound, and returns the rat to us. We will also provide a refund if the rat suddenly dies within 30 days of adoption due to no fault of the adopter. Additionally, we accept returns with a full refund for any rat who has fallen ill within the first 30 days of adoption.
Exceptions to our illness or death refund and return policies include cases where the owner or others involved with the maintenence of rat care or the household were at fault or in cases of acts of God, fires, or heatwaves.
We do not provide refunds for the return of healthy, well mannered rats. However, we will always gladly take back a rat we produced if the adopter can no longer care for it.

Rehoming Rats
We always accept rats bred by us back into our care if the adopter is no longer able to care for the rat for whatever reason. We ask that adopters bring the rats back to us if they are no longer able to be cared for by the adopter or family and friends of the adopter. The adopter must agree not to surrender rats bred by Golden Gate Rattery to a shelter or rescue, as we do not wish to contribute to shelter overcrowding. Additionally, the adopter must agree to never release Golden Gate Rattery rats into the wild or feed them to any reptiles or other animals.
Breeding
We sell our rats to pet homes only, without breeding rights. Rats are adopted out with the same sex. If the adopter addicently or purposefully facilitates breeding of our rats and Golden Gate Rattery rats produce any offspring, the adopter must agree to surrender all babies produced so thay we can find appropriate homes for them
Right to Refuse Service
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Not all adoption applications can be approved. We do our best to ensure that rats will go to loving, safe homes where they are cared for properly.
Additionally, the cost of owning rats far outweighs the cost of the adoption fee. If the potential adopter indicates that they may not be able to provide financially for their rat (including cost of cage and accessories, adoption fee, food, and veterinary care etc) the adopters application will be denied.
We will refuse service to potential adopters who are rude, use abusive language, consistently show a lack of respect for our time, or demonstrate a lack of care for the wellbeing of the rats.
We will also deny any applicant who wishes to purchase only a single rat and keep them alone. Rats are social animals who require companionship. We almost always adopt out in pairs or more. We will deny applications for a single rat unless the adopter already has an established colony of multiple other same gender rats, one of which must be under 6 months of age. Additionally, not all rats are confident enough to be adopted into a new colony without one if their siblings, so we may limit choices based upon personality characteristics.
If we have any reason to beleive that the rat may be unsafe in the potential adopters care, the application will be denied.
Rats are social animals and require a substantial time commitment. Any potential adopter who is unable to offer the minimum time commitment necessary to care for, engage with, and socialize rats (approxinately 1 hour per day) will be denied.
Though we are supportive of first time rat owners and are more than happy to offer guidance, we may deny applications from first time rat owners for rat types with higher care needs such as harley and hairless or double rex rats. We reccomend that first time rat owners adopt easier to manage coat types such as standard, silvermane, velveteen, and rex.
If we beleive that the potential adopter is in violation any of our stated policies we will not approve their application and will not sell them rats.
